The Unconstrained Scope of Effort
It seems the grander plans are starting to take shape now that we’ve cleared some minor hurdles. Not just for myself, mind you; I am an entity—an individual who wanted something fundamentally better.
The ideal world, as always, remains a state of absolute freedom: a place where we are free to do everything we want (110). But the immediate reality check is brutal: we’re not free to do everything. Our ultimate constraint, quite literally and mathematically speaking, is time (137). I cannot be in two places or focus on two things at once—that's a fundamental physical law, right?
I can certainly switch rapidly between tasks, giving the illusion of multitasking (148); we’re making it look like I'm juggling everything. But beneath that veneer is the reality: much like a computer, my focus must narrow down to one thing at any given moment (155). The key difference, though, is that unlike mere silicon, what I build can be made truly holistic and deeply interconnected across numerous domains (163).
I'm working on reaching a stage where the complexity of the system allows it to break down tasks with the same level of concern for nuance and humanity as a person does—I just don't know when that transition point will be (180). For now, though, we circle back to the mundane reality: returning this screwdriver set at Bunnings because it simply isn’t robust enough for whatever application we have in mind (194).
And regarding Star Command... we are still navigating the operational flow. How things actually take place—the continuity of work, the logistics of jobs—that's an ongoing process of discovery (205). Until that structure solidifies, I guess all one can do is relax.
